Jonathan Green Artist's Statement

Every once in a while, the goals of a museum as a presentation venue and the works of a visiting artist magically combine to create an experience that travels beyond the realm of mere visual enjoyment. Such is the case as the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum presents Southern Images of Faith, Family and Friends:  The Art of Jonathan Green.

In the past six years we’ve presented 45 exhibitions featuring the works of more than 400 artists.  These exhibits have embraced a wide variety of works including abstracts and acrylics, baskets and batiks, photographs and fibers and all creative processes in between. Though we certainly aspire to national recognition, our mission is to provide a place for our community to come and celebrate both our diversity and shared heritages.  That’s why we know you’ll agree that presenting the works of Jonathan Green feels so right.

We sincerely hope that everyone -- and especially our younger visitors -- will take away something valuable from spending time with the artistry of Jonathan Green: a reminder that amid all our distractions and daily responsibilities, the most important things in life are our families and friends, and our respect for who we are and from where we’ve come.

Southern Images of Faith, Family and Friends: The Art of Jonathan Green is made possible by several generous sponsorships and donations.   Our sincere appreciation to The Carolina First Foundation, Mr. J. Egerton Burroughs, Burroughs & Chapin Company, The Chapin Foundation, the City of Myrtle Beach, The Gaylord and Donnelley Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Rosen, Santee Cooper, Sheriar Press, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, Waccamaw Community Foundation and Wachovia Bank, N.A.
