"Photography brought him great pleasure and he devoted much study and experimentation to his avocation. Travel in Europe( France, Greece, Italy and Spain) provided him with many subjects, as did visits in the United States, to such sites as Chicago, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C. and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He believed in the philosophy that most good photographers follow-Always have your camera with you!"

" Favorite shots were architectural details; spontaneous moments a la Cartier-Bresson; and available light, intimate portraits of friends and family. These required very fast film and "push" processing. Whether capturing the cascade of a fireworks display, the gargoyle on a Gothic cathedral, or a painterly view of an inlet-his timing and his eye for design and color are evident in his photographs, revealing his background in architecture. Perrin never promoted his own artistic ability, but rather worked to promote the arts of this area.

Perrin's life was brought to a sudden tragic end when he died of pulmonary fibrosis in May of 2001, at the age of 68. He led a full and active life up to the sudden onset of the disease, a mere five months before his death. His widow, Bobbie has many of his works in a private collection. She is currently a docent at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum

A good friend and colleague wrote the following tribute:

" He was an enthusiastic mentor to students, a professional artisan, musical and architectural expert and friend with colleagues, and an invaluable resource and asset for city staff and the community"
