Grama's Girl: Watercolor.Size: 27"x 37 1/2"
Inspiration:......"Grama's Girl was a part of a series I was working
on at the time. I saw the images on the street of Charleston, South Carolina.
I photographed them and did some drawings. I "pushed this" watercolor
by placing both figures (as if they are) walking out of the painting to
the right. I have been taught not to have your subjects walking out of
center. Or to have the weight of the painting (images) all on the side
they are facing. this makes the piece unbalanced. I decided to break the
rules and do just that. I added the bus-stop sign to give it more balance
and to add a third image. I like to add an uneven amount of images in
my paintings. The name came from the idea of grandmothers helping to raise
their grandchildren so Granma's Girl is spelled as a child might say it."
How Piece was Acquired: Won the 1982 Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild
Award and was purchased by the City of Myrtle Beach..
